For the past several months, we’ve been focused on bringing the 2 most requested site features to fruition; a public API and the iPhone application. Today’s site maintenance is a big step towards this goal, and will allow us to begin live testing of these products.

If you have thousands of entries, you may notice a bit of an increase in speed on your page. As the API will open the site up to an influx of entries, this update has created the infrastructure that will allow us to cope with the additional entries, and those pages will see slight performance gains. – Nicholas.

We have updated the timeline display to behave more like the other charts on the site. Only entries plotted in the timeline are now visible in the items list below. – Nicholas.

I dislike this change to the timeline. It is useless to me in this format. I had not noticed any discrepancy in its previous behavior, not sure what you mean by “behave more like other charts…” Also, the timeline does not show “x more items” for categories with more items than can be displayed at once. It did before.

@ mark: both the stacked line graph and pie chart only display the items represented in the graph in their key. Additionally, all the other displays will only show the items that match their timespan. Because the timeline only shows 6 weeks at a time, we feel that this is more in keeping with the behavior of the other displays.

The iPhone app is something I’ve been looking forward to for recording my data. It would make this so much easier even though the mobile site is awesome…I just hate using Safari if I don’t need to.
If you’re in the need for any beta testers I’d love to help out. I helped out with the iDailyBooth app for testing, UI, as well as designing their website. Please just drop me a line.

@Noah – thank you for the support… we haven’t made plans to produce an Android app, but the public API will allow developers to make applications for any platform, and we hope they will use that opportunity.

Yes! We’ll have a proper blog post after the beta testers get started, but we’re down to the nitty gritty. We’ve got offline adding/editing, multiple accounts, and in-app graphs all working. Very much in the home stretch.

Add an email feature, so we can add items via any phone that supports email. Make sure to give us the option to add several email addresses, since phones often have unique addresses.

Loving Daytum but …
The text entry box on the site is useless. I have “Fruit tea” and “Tea” – if I type “tea” it should never, ever complete to “Fruit Tea” just because that’s alphabetically first. I’ve typed the *exact* name of a thing! Best match first, please, in the suggestions.
And the delay between typing and the suggestions appearing is way too long. If I actually type “tea” I end up in the address bar. I have to type “tea[wait for at least half a second]“. It’s a jarring pain in the … workflow.

Is there a way to countdown to something? For example, I want to show # days till I leave on my trip….Also, would be great if you had some more examples of how to set things up besides lunch items… for those of us who want to do more but are “data-challenged”: for example, can I track the number of breaks I take from my desk day over day, or % of time I’ve met my goal of working for 90 min, then taking a break? I’m sure you don’t have the time, but can you suggest any folks who know Daytum well enough to do some paid set-up for me, others? Thanks!!

To countdown to an event, add an entry at the time you wish to count to. Then choose the “time since last entry” display type.
The other scenarios are possible, but I’m not sure how to connect you with someone who could set up the site in the best way for you. – Nicholas.
